Frequently Asked Questions
Permanent Outdoor Lighting FAQs
Straight answers for Atlanta homeowners considering permanent lighting. 25 questions covering cost, install, the app, weather and warranty.
The Basics
What permanent outdoor lighting is and how it works on an Atlanta home.
What is permanent outdoor lighting?
Permanent outdoor lighting is a low-profile aluminum track with individually controlled color-changing LED lights that we mount along your roofline, gables, eaves and other architectural lines. It is installed once, color matched to your trim, and then controlled from an app on your phone. You get holiday lights, game day colors, warm white accent lighting and security lighting from one system without ever hanging strands again.
Will the lights be visible during the day?
Barely. The track is slim, sits tight under the drip edge or fascia, and is color matched to your home so it reads like trim. From the street most people never notice it until the lights come on at night.
Is this only for Christmas lights?
No. Holiday displays are the most popular use, but the same system gives you soft warm white architectural lighting every evening, bright white security lighting after dark, and any color combination you want for Falcons, Braves, Georgia or Georgia Tech game days, birthdays and parties. It is one system for every occasion.
Do you install on any style of home?
Yes. We install on brick, siding, stucco, stone and hardie board across Atlanta, from Craftsman bungalows in Kirkwood to two-story traditionals in Alpharetta. Different track profiles let us follow flat fascia, angled soffits and detailed trim cleanly.
Do you do commercial properties?
Right now West End Lighting is focused strictly on residential permanent lighting in the Atlanta area. If you own a business and want to be notified when commercial installs open up, give us a call and we will keep your information on file.
Pricing & Financing
What a permanent lighting system costs in Atlanta and how to pay for it.
How much does permanent outdoor lighting cost in Atlanta?
Every home is different, so pricing depends on the total linear footage we light and how many rooflines, peaks and columns are included. Some homeowners light only the front elevation, others do the entire house plus a back porch. The fastest way to get an exact number is a free on-site design and quote. We measure, walk you through options and give you a firm price before anything is scheduled.
Is financing available?
Yes. We offer flexible financing with a quick application so you can spread the investment into affordable monthly payments. Ask about current financing options when you request your quote.
Is permanent lighting cheaper than hiring a Christmas light installer every year?
Over time, yes. Seasonal installation companies in Atlanta typically charge every single year for hanging, takedown and replacing burned out strands. A permanent system is paid for once and lasts for decades, and you also get year-round accent and security lighting that seasonal lights never provide.
Will it raise my power bill?
Not noticeably. Each LED draws under one watt, so a typical whole-house system running a few hours a night uses about as much electricity as a handful of standard light bulbs.
Installation
What to expect from the first visit to the final walkthrough.
How long does installation take?
Most Atlanta homes are completed in a single day, with larger or more detailed homes taking two. Our crew arrives with the track already color matched, mounts it along your rooflines, wires the controller in your garage or another discreet location, then tests every zone and walks you through the app before we leave.
Where does the controller go?
The weatherproof controller is usually mounted inside the garage or near an exterior outlet with a good Wi-Fi signal. It needs a standard outlet and Wi-Fi. If you prefer a different spot, we will work with you on placement during the design visit.
Do I need to be home during the install?
Only at the end. We need access to power and the controller location, but the work happens outside. We do ask that you are available for the final walkthrough so we can set up the app on your phone and show you how everything works.
Will you damage my roof, gutters or siding?
No. The track mounts to the fascia or under the drip edge with small fasteners and is sealed properly. We never attach anything to shingles and we take care around gutters, downspouts and existing wiring.
How far out are you booking?
Fall is our busiest season as Atlanta homeowners get ready for the holidays. To guarantee your lights are up before Thanksgiving, we recommend booking your design visit in late summer or early fall. Spring and summer installs typically have shorter lead times.
App & Control
Everything about the free app that runs your lights.
How do I control the lights?
Through a free app on iOS or Android. Pick from hundreds of built-in scenes, build your own patterns, set schedules with sunrise and sunset timers, and control each zone of your home independently. The system is cloud connected, so you can turn things on from the office or while traveling.
Is there a subscription or monthly fee for the app?
No. The app is free to download and free to use with no monthly or annual fee.
Does it work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
Yes. You can link the system to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control, and it also supports Control4 for homes with integrated smart home systems.
Can different parts of the house show different colors?
Yes. Each controller supports up to eight independent zones, so the front roofline can run warm white while the back porch runs a party pattern, or the peaks can be one color and the eaves another.
Can I make my own patterns?
Absolutely. Beyond the built-in presets, the app has a full custom editor where you can choose colors, spacing, chase effects and speed, then save your scenes for later.
Durability & Warranty
How the system holds up to Georgia weather and what is covered.
How long do the lights last?
The LEDs are rated for roughly 50,000 hours at full brightness on white. At a few hours of use per night, that works out to well over 20 years of service. Most colored scenes draw less power and last even longer.
Can the system handle Atlanta heat, humidity and storms?
Yes. The track, lights and controller are weather rated and UL listed for outdoor use. They are built to handle summer heat, heavy rain, pollen season and the occasional ice storm without issue.
What kind of warranty do you offer?
Our systems are backed by a multi-year manufacturer parts warranty plus our own workmanship warranty on the installation. We will go over the exact terms in writing with your quote so there are no surprises.
What if a light goes out or something breaks later?
Repairs are rare, but if anything ever needs attention just call (404) 667-0834. We are a local Atlanta company, we service what we install, and individual lights can be swapped without replacing the whole run.
